YOUNG ADULT MINISTRIES REPORT

The mission of Young Adult Ministry:

The Young Adult Ministry’s mission is to praise and glorify God, as well as gain an understanding of God’s word and teachings as it applies in our lives; to provide an open forum where young adults can meet regularly to discuss the various spiritual issues our age group faces; to provide support and fellowship while keeping in the work of the Lord; to motivate one another to maintain our walk of faith and continue to glorify God in all that we do; to be a social group of positive influence, providing guidance, and direction towards purpose and self-discovery.

Our Goal is to:

  • Affirm the unique gifts, talents, and ministries of young adults;
  • Provide opportunities through programs and resources for young adults to explore ways to integrate their faith in their lives and through their life transitions;
  • Nurture the Young Adult ministry through training, resources and creating environments of support;
  • Fully embrace young adults in our church and in our community, addressing their needs and issues through evangelism and a spirit of Christian fellowship, renewing and supporting the growth of the body of Christ.

We also decided on the age range for the group which are ages 18-40. This group is divided into two, 18-25 and 26-40.

CHALLENGES

People were skeptical to join the group because of previous young adult group that was going well but was dissolved unexpectedly some years ago.

The younger adults (18 above) were not interested because they felt their views were different from the older adults’.

It was initially a challenge recruiting new members because they did not know what to expect.

The age difference was also a challenge because of the topics for discussion.

SOLUTION

We created a young adult group on whatsapp, (a phone application) where all young adult members are notified about meetings, updates and able to interact with each other.

We came up with organizing social events that would bring everybody together to bridge the gap between the younger adults and the older ones. This would help create a strong bond among young adults in the church.

GROUPS OF YOUNG ADULT

We divided the young adult group into two.

1st group of ages 18-25

2nd group of ages 26-40 and above.

The 1st group of ages 18-25 was created because the younger adults could discuss pertinent topics and it would be much easier to relate to each other.

2nd group 26-40 and above.

EXECUTION

We organized a barbeque on May 25th 2013, all young adults were invited and there was a great turn out. We discussed the importance of the young adult ministry and how each person can benefit from the group. At this gathering, the young adults were informed about splitting the group into two and Brother Tunde Adedipe was appointed their overseer. (Ages18-25)

New members of young adult were able to introduce themselves to the group.

We gathered the contact information of new members to follow up and added them to the young adult whatsapp group for notification and updates.
